Why I'm looking forward to bringing Anaplan home

October 16, 2015

It's now nearly 10 years since I left Ireland and I can't wait to get home! On September 16th, I'll be showcasing Anaplan in Ireland and let me tell you, I am very excited. Like Dorothy in the wizard of Oz I'm tapping my shoes and repeating 'there's no place like home, there's no place like home' in an excited voice. But what elicits this girlish excitement?

Well number one is I love Ireland! And really who doesn't? I had the quintessential Irish upbringing, family of 6, son to two hard working primary school teachers, diet of Gaelic football through my school years mixed with copious amounts of Guinness and potatoes.

I left Ireland to pursue my career in London and I'm sure like many other emigrants I have nothing but fond memories of Ireland. Returning home each Christmas for the last ten years has always been an emotionally difficult experience. The delight at being home but the heart wrench at leaving again post festivities. Ireland is one of those vibrant places that just draws you in. But rather than the stereotypical Guinness and Potato image of Ireland I know the real Ireland. A technologically advanced Mecca home to some of the world’s most ambitious and talented people. An education system which produces year after year an army of supremely motivated and world ready workers just itching to find their place in the world.

Ireland is famous for what we call the craic, but more importantly we have produced some of the world’s greatest playwrights, poets, humanitarians, educators, actors and business people. Ireland is a thriving hub of business and sitting at the corner of Europe is perfectly placed to take advantage of its island geography. While I'm not ready to hang up my London shoes just yet I have my green, white and gold brogues ready for the action on the 16th September.

Number two - I love Anaplan. I genuinely enjoy working with the little bundle of joy the men of York have built over the past 8 years. While having an historic affiliation with IBM Cognos, given that it's where I started my career and built my business, I've grown to love Anaplan. The simple fact is, every morning I wake up to go to an Anaplan client I have a smile on my face.

I absolutely love showing it to potential clients, I want them to share the same journey I have. I want to free them from the shackles of system implementations and IT service desks and empower them to have the system adapt to them rather than adapting themselves to the system. So you can imagine my excitement at sharing this joy with my fellow Gaels over the coming month and years!

On September 16th in the Guinness Storehouse we'll be showcasing the product in partnership with our good friends at Anaplan. For me this is a seminal point in my career, a return home of sorts and I literally cannot wait!
